Experience of interaction with Hiring manager/ Business Interview
Comment : I was surprised with my shortlist in the first place given my experience as a communications professional. I had mentioned this to the HR when I was shortlisted, and to the business head who interviewed me. I especially mentioned specifically that I had no IT experience. However, I did highlight my transferable skills as I had done B2B BD previously in HCL's education division which created solutions for K-12 and higher educational institutions. However, according to my gut feel, there seemed to be a disconnect between what the HR had pitched (I am guessing primarily my number of years of experience), and what the business head had understood. Therefore there was no meeting of minds, which I had anticipated from the beginning. What was disappointing is that I generally exercise a great degree of thought in selecting the interviews where I want to appear, to be able to maintain a good conversion record. And this firm kind of set my average back a bit..:). And as I had mentioned above, at the very outset I expressed to them my surprise at having been selected. That was the crux of the mail that I sent back to the when the HR wrote to me saying ,"The feedback for the discussion seems not to be positive, specifically looking in the role perspective." A portion of my mail is reporduced below:
"Thank you for your support and initial interest in my profile. The feedback was expected because as I told you when you shortlisted me, that I was surprised by your interest in my profile. However I would also urge you to go through the profile sheet again if any candidate matches your expectations." The last line I wrote in my capacity as General Secretary of the Placement Committee, to pitch the students of my batch.
